This morning I was casually flipping through a music magazine and I decided to count the gender ratio within its pages. As it turns out, there are 264 males in this magazine and 4 females. FOUR girls. This is a popular music magazine, and this ratio is not awesome. 

This blog isn’t meant to slap the hands of the editors or make the boys feel bad for being… abundant in the music industry. This is to urge you girls out there to go learn an instrument if it’s something you want to do. Start a band! Learn how to use recording software. Learn about the ins and outs (so to speak) of audio! Don’t feel intimidated, music is not a man’s job.

In my 24 years I’ve only met one female music producer. I want to meet more! There’s nothing that pleases me more than seeing a female front of house or stage hand working at a venue. I love watching a girl shred the guitar as though the fact that she’s a chick never crossed anyone’s mind.

Ladies, get in there! Never let anyone tell you this world isn’t yours.
